The Best Soil for Our Garden

As a group, we recently conducted an experiment that investigated the porosity and permeability of different soil samples.  Porosity is how much water drains through a soil.  Permeability is how fast water drains through a soil.

Which soil sample (sand, topsoil, or schoolyard dirt) would you recommend to Dr. Chambers for our community garden?  Why did you choose this type of soil?

  6. For me I pick sand because sand went through the fastest and I test it out so I pick sand.

  7. I think top soil will be the best to grow a garden because it has more space for water to go threw and the water drains through faster.

  8. I think we should use top soil because it takes more time for water to pass through.thus, providing more water for the plants

  9. to me i think we should try the topsoil because the sand we cant use DEFINETLY and the schoolyard dirt is little too dry!and what im saying is that the topsoil is more moist for the roots and the plant can grow more leaves and plant life for the earth to not be full of drugs and smoke in the air mr.redden told me that pretend that your a thousand people that that one good thing that you do can change the whole community

  11. my answer is topsoil, because sand, nothing can grow in it and school yard dirt has too much open space. that's why i choose topsoil
